Python/iX is a port of the Python programming language to HP's MPE/iX operating system.
Python is an interactive, interpreted, object-oriented scripting language with clean syntax and clean semantics. It falls in the same language space as PERL and TCL. Python supports modules, classes, exceptions and dynamic typing. It is also very easy to extend both using extension modules written in C or C++, and from within Python itself. Python can also be embedded in applications which wish to offer some kind of programmability to the end user. Python is copyrighted but is distributed under a generous license.
Discussions about Python/iX happen mostly by email. There are three discussion lists defined currently:
Please subscribe to the Python/iX mailing lists to participate.
Source for Python/iX is available using Anon-CVS. Useful for tracking down pesky bugs, or when developing products using Python/iX.
Documentation in the form of user guides will soon be made available.
Soon to come: bug reporting using SourceForge's facilities.
We welcome participation from Python and MPE afficionados!
We will soon be providing you with Python binaries for MPE/iX 6.0 and 6.5 for you to run.
If you have access to an MPE/iX machine you can participate in the development of Python/iX! We will post the details of the necessary development environment (obviously on MPE/iX) soon. In order to commit changes to the Python/iX source tree you'll need to become a member of the SourceForge community, of course.
